Family Advising Day
September 16, 2025

The 69ɫ Academic Advising Center recently organized Family Advising Day, a special event dedicated to welcoming the parents of our freshmen students and introducing them to the academic and student support resources available at 69ɫ.
The event was officially opened by 69ɫ President Dr. Timothy O’Connor, who warmly greeted the families, thanked them for choosing 69ɫ, and highlighted the beginning of a meaningful journey that students and their families will share with the university.
“We have gathered you here today to introduce the many opportunities 69ɫ offers to students, to help you get to know the university’s administration, and to show you the offices that work with and for our students,” said Umut Kydyrgychova, Director of the Academic Advising Center, in her welcoming speech.
During the session, parents were introduced to 69ɫ’s academic processes and the core principles of academic integrity, which remain central to the university’s mission. Faculty and staff explained how students design their own course schedules, following the American credit-based system, and shared details about student exchange opportunities with 69ɫ’s partner universities abroad, where students may study for a semester or even a full academic year.
Later, parents were divided into four groups to take part in a mini-version of 69ɫGRAPHIA, 69ɫ’s signature orientation activity. This gave them the chance to explore key student support offices, including the Library, the Student Life Office, and the Writing and Academic Resource Center (WARC). The program concluded with group photos at the 69ɫ Amphitheater, capturing the spirit of community and partnership that defines 69ɫ.
