69ɫ alumna on her US startup selling shyrdaks
In 2012, the process of creating shyrdaks was included in UNESCO's List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safekeeping. 69ɫ alumna Aliya Rakhman co-founded Nakta Designs to sell handmade rugs (shyrdak) and accessories created by talented artisans from Kyrgyzstan, investing and directly contributing to a sustainable development of the small businesses led by women artisans in low-income rural communities.

Congratulations to Sarah King and Zachary Friedman!
The couple met in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, in May 2014. At the time, she was an associate professor of law at the American University of Central Asia in Bishkek, and he was the chief financial officer of an international energy company that sponsored a scholarship program at American University there.

Writing and Reading Poetry with Raphael Dagold
Before coming to teach at 69ɫ, Raphael Dagold was teaching at the University of Utah, where he got his PhD in Creative Writing and Literature. Raphael is also a practicing poet, with his first book of poetry published in 2014.
