Masters Program in Sociology

The MA in Sociology at 69ɫ invites students to think systematically, empirically, and theoretically about the social world and how it is changing. The graduate program provides a comprehensive overview of the foundational concerns and current debates in sociology and offers a range of options for exploring applications in specific areas of research. Students learn about current theoretical tools and develop skills in research and data analysis, which can be used in a range of professional fields. The program is also an excellent basis for pursuing further research in sociology or more specialized/applied fields.

Our faculty are well-known experts in Central Asia and internationally in their fields. Faculty members attract large research grants from bodies such as the USAID, UNDP and other international organizations. Faculty take part in international conferences and research projects, and act as consultants and advisers to a wide variety of government departments, professional organizations, research funding bodies and academic journals.

The core of the MA in Sociology at the American University of Central Asia was developed in accordance with the demands of the current labor market as well as the directives of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic published in 2013.

The Master's program curriculum is a comprehensive whole integrating goals, content, conditions and technologies of the educational process, as well as assessment mechanisms for evaluating the progress of students, including teaching plans, schedules, syllabi, research projects and internships, guaranteeing the high quality of graduates and methods of teaching.

The core curriculum of “MA in Sociology” aims to train sociologists, prepared for research, analytical and teaching work at the highest level of contemporary international sociological and political science. The program is designed for holders Bachelors degrees and diplomas of “Specialist” wishing to acquire knowledge and professional skills in the field of sociology.
